As an independent business owner, you support your community on a daily basis. You have a vested interest in our local economy because you not only live in Southeast Texas, but you have built a business that your fellow Southeast Texans believe in and trust. Your customers patronize your business because they know it’s homegrown and you love providing them with the specialized service they’ve come to know and expect. You’d love to reach out to broader audience of potential customers and help teach local consumers about the benefits of supporting independent, locally-owned businesses in the process. Geaux Local might be just the tool you’ve been looking for!

Geaux Local has the potential to be a great asset to our each of our GL Merchant Family businesses and we believe that through our cooperative efforts, we can build a thriving, diverse community of successful independent local retailers and service providers with a solid base of consumer support behind them. The more businesses that participate, the more impact we will have on our local economy.

Geaux Local Business Members must meet all of the following criteria:

• Base of business operations is in Southeast Texas.
• Privately owned.
• Owned in majority by a Southeast Texas resident(s) living in Southeast Texas, at least 6 months of the year.
• If there is more than one location, the base of operations or main corporate office resides in Southeast Texas.
• Business owners are autonomous to make decisions about the business at all levels, including the name, look and feel of business (signage, logo, facade, menu, etc.), products or services carried or produced, where inventory is purchased, marketing and advertising, accounting and legal services, and distribution of profits.

Your first year (from date of joining) as a member of Geaux Local is free and there’s no commitment to remain a part of our organization if you find that it has not been beneficial to your business. After your first year, our annual dues are as follows:

• increased business due to public education as to why it’s important to support independent, locally owned businesses
• a tasteful, removable window Geaux Local decal, identifying your business as independent;
• being part of a network of businesses that support and patronize each other;
• group buying and advertising;
• a listing on the Geaux Local Web site by category, linking to your site and identifying your business as locally owned;
• Geaux Local logos for use on your Web site and promotional materials; and
• the chance to participate in our exciting grass roots “Shop Locally” campaign.
